Broome
Plans never go to plan it seems, when cars are involved. We are still in Broome, our car finally better after another visit to the mechanics for new 'shockies' (bloody aussies abbreviate everything they can). Hopefully we are leaving on Thursday with a new travelling companion. But Broome has been a pretty nice place to get stuck waiting for the car to get fixed. We stumbled upon an advert for free camping in exchange for some general help and gardening and thought we'd give it a try. We called up and arranged to meet Charles, who has his own microlight business. Charles is a very interesting if a little eccentric english man. He built his own hangar for his planes, which is right on the runway. Its great. He has been on all sorts of crazy travelling expeditions- mostly on his motorbike, and he was the first person ever to cross the sahara on a motorbike. We are helping him to extend the hangar, and have been putting posts in the ground and concreting stuff, all the while planes are taking off and landing right behind us. Its been fun, completely not what we were expecting to do in Broome. Also, he lives on a bus. In case he gets itchy feet and decides to pack in his business and set off again on another crazy expedition. But the best bit is, and I admit this is a pretty strange thing to get excited about, but his bathroom is outside. A plumbed in toilet, a functioning shower, a few froggy and bug friends and the australian wilderness. Its great.
